HPD Arrests 4 In Suspected Waikane Chop Shop
WAIKANE VALLEY, Hawaii — Police arrested four people when they raided a suspected chop shop in Waikane Valley on Friday morning.
Complaints from the community played a big part in the bust, police said.
Police raided the home on Waikane Valley Road at about 6 a.m.
They served a search warrant that was issued after a detective said he saw stolen property in plain view in the yard of the home.
“When we served the search warrant, we found stolen auto parts, recovered one vehicle for defaced serial number, and subsequent to that search warrant, there were also several drug arrests made,” Lt. James Strickland said.
Crystal methamphetamine was found along with stolen credit cards, police said.
Four people were at home at the time. Police arrested all of them, including Stanley Jumawan Jr., 33, who has 14 prior arrests.
Police also took a 53-year-old man and two women — ages 53 and 30 — into custody.
“Based on community complaints, there have been a lot of vehicles that have been, as we term it, dumped in this area,” Strickland said.
Car parts and batteries could also be seen on city land next the property.
Authorities said dumping in general is a big problem in the area.
