Hawaii Delegation Celebrates Obama’s Night
DENVER — Among the 85,000 Sen. Barack Obama supporters at the finale of the Democratic National Convention was Hawaii’s delegation.
KITV’s cameras were allowed on the convention floor to capture their excitement.
It was a powerful, emotional moment at Invesco Field.
KITV’s Shawn Ching caught up with the Hawaii delegation immediately after Obama’s speech. The representatives said they were blown away.
“It’s the dream you never would have dreamed. It means so much to all of us from Hawaii, but really to America and the world,” supporter Chuck Freedman said.
“Oh it was history! I’ve never experienced anything like this. This was an amazing night. I think this will be one of the greatest speeches in American history. I’m just so happy, so proud that we have our native son on that stage ready to be the next president of the United States,” Hawaii Democratic Party Chairman Brian Schatz said.
“His words are so moving. It makes me so proud to be an American and so proud to live in Hawaii. It’s just an incredible moment in history and I’m so glad to be here for it,” “Lost” actor Daniel Dae Kim said.
“Local boy made good — to every young man and woman in Hawaii: you can be somebody, you can achieve your dreams,” Mayor Mufi Hannemann said.
“Everything we’ve ever dreamed of all these dozens and dozens of years. Every part of the legacy and history of Hawaii and the nation are coming together tonight,” U.S. Rep. Neil Abercrombie said.
“That was amazing. He laid out his plan of what he’s going to do for the American people. That was just wonderful, that’s what we needed to hear,” Hawaii Democratic Party Vice Chair Kari Luna said.
“Well, he nailed it. I mean this is a clear expression of somebody’s beliefs, his plans for the future, and he made everyone here believe again,” former Gov. John Waihee said.
“It’s so exciting. He’s going to win. He’s going to change our country. It’s going to be good times for 4 years,” Maui delegate Jonathan Starr said.
