Veteran Glad Congress Acknowledges Illness

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

HONOLULU — Thousands of veterans of the first Gulf War have been haunted by mysterious pain and other symptoms.

On Monday, they said they heard welcome news.

Experts agree the Gulf War Syndrome is real, not just in their heads.

One veteran said he hopes the congressional report will bring relief both physical and financial.

In March of 1991, after 10 months in the Persian Gulf, Marines returned to Kaneohe and among them was a guy waving the flag from the top hatch of the plane.

“I like to call it the happiest-day-of-my-life picture,” Gulf War veteran Derrick Brown said.

The corporal had come home unharmed — or so he thought, until he picked up mysterious symptoms like many of this other buddies.

“Joint pain, severe sweating, I have severe sleep apnea. (Read the full post about ‘Veteran Glad Congress Acknowledges Illness’…)

He packed his wallet, cell phone and wedding ring in a waterproof case and headed out for an 8.5-mile paddle along Oahu’s east shore. He had almost finished paddling when he realized he lost the case.

“It was gone. The container was gone, and I freaked out. I was like ‘Oh my gosh,’” Helm said.

Lohan Pelted With Flour For Wearing Fur

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

Actress Lindsay Lohan apparently paid the price for wearing fur Saturday as she entered a Paris nightclub.

According to celebrity gossip site TMZ.com, an entire bag of flour was dumped on the actress’ head by an animal rights activist.

TMZ said that an animal rights activist shouted “Lindsay Lohan — fur hag” during the alleged incident.

Lohan was with gal pal Samantha Ronson, who was spinning records at the club.

The owner of the nightclub helped Lohan dust off her blue sequined dress and black stole before she posed on the red carpet.

Ronson, who has been romantically linked to Lohan, played such tracks as Katy Perry’s “I Kissed a Girl” at the nightclub.

Experimental Beatles Track May Be Released

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

LONDON — Paul McCartney wants to release an avant-garde track that The Beatles recorded in 1967.

The 14-minute song “Carnival of Light” includes a distorted guitar and organ, plus the sound of gargling and McCartney and John Lennon shouting “Barcelona!” and “Are you all right?”

McCartney said they made it during a session at Abbey Road and he had asked the other band members to “just wander round all of the stuff and bang it, shout, play it.”

He told the British Broadcasting Corporation that he still has a master tape of it, and that “the time has come for it to get its moment.”

McCartney said that he wanted to include it on The Beatles’ “Anthology” CDs, but the other group members vetoed it.

The singer-songwriter would have to get permission from Ringo Starr, Lennon’s widow, Yoko Ono, and George Harrison’s widow, Olivia Harrison, to release the track. (Read the full post about ‘Experimental Beatles Track May Be Released’…)

In fact, Diddy called himself “The King of ‘TRL”‘ on the show. Kid Rock’s final act of defiance was to refuse to put out his cigar on the set, after years of being asked to do that.

Eminem said of “TRL,” “I kind of feel like they’re tearing down my home.”

“TRL’s” final countdown was the top videos of its entire run.
